Changing the lenses on a pair of Ray-Ban RB4246 Clubround is easy: with the glasses upside down, you undo the small screw that holds the lens, take out the old lens, fit the new one and screw it back in. All it takes is care, because the screws are tiny and the lenses are made of glass. We explain it step by step.
The RB4246 has been a big hit ever since it came out: thanks to its shape and colors, it suits both men and women. Its weak point is that it has lots of small parts, and sooner or later one gets lost or damaged. Fortunately, almost all of them can be replaced.
It is worth changing the lenses when they are scratched in the area you look through, when one has cracked or simply when you want a different color. If the frame is in good condition, replacing just the lenses is much cheaper than buying a new pair, and yours will look as good as the day you got them.
Before you start
Check your model and lens size
On the inside of one of the temples you will see the reference of your glasses, in a format like “RB3025 001 58□14”. In your case it should start with “RB4246”. Next comes the frame color code and two numbers separated by a square: the lens size (the lens width in millimeters) and the bridge width. Order lenses in the size shown on your temple.
What you need
- Replacement lenses for the RB4246.
- A 3-in-1 screwdriver; we will use the top end, which has a flat tip.
- Fine tweezers (optional) for handling the screw.
- A soft cloth to rest the glasses and lenses on.
How to change the lenses on the RB4246 step by step
- Get the screwdriver ready. Take the 3-in-1 screwdriver and use the top end, which has a flat tip.
- Turn the glasses upside down. This gives you access to screw 82, the one that holds the lens.
- Remove screw 82. Do it over the cloth and carefully: it is very small. Keep it somewhere safe.
- Remove the old lens. Take it out of the rim without forcing it, holding it so it doesn’t fall.
- Insert the new lens. Fit it so that its edges line up with those of the frame, the right way round.
- Screw it back in. With the lens in place, tighten the screw until the lens is held firmly inside the frame. Don’t overdo it.
- Check. The lens should not move or rotate. If it wobbles, give the screw a little more tightening.

Important points
- The screw is very small, so always keep it in sight.
- The lenses of the Ray-Ban 4246 are made of glass: don’t let them fall, because they scratch and break more easily than plastic ones.
- Make sure the lens is properly seated in the frame before tightening the screw.
Common mistakes
- Losing the screw. Work on a light-colored surface and take your time.
- Overtightening. With a glass lens, a rim that is too tight can make it crack.
- Leaving the lens badly seated. If the edges don’t line up with the frame, the lens will come loose.
- Ordering the wrong lens size. Always check the number before the square.
- Using a tip that doesn’t fit. It damages the screw head.
