Replacing the arms on a pair of Ray-Ban 3447V Round Metal eyeglasses takes just a few minutes: you remove the hinge screw with a 3-in-1 screwdriver, take off the old arm, fit the new one and tighten it again. You don’t need to remove the prescription lenses or take the glasses to an optician.
The Round Metal is one of Ray-Ban’s most popular models: simple, comfortable, lightweight and flattering on many face shapes. On top of that, the range of frame and temple tip colors lets you personalize it. Its arms are thin, so with daily use it is normal for them to bend, loosen or break.
Before you start
Check your frame reference
On the inside of the arm you will see the full reference printed: the model number (3447V for the eyeglasses version), the color code and the lens and bridge measurements, in the same format as on any Ray-Ban (for example, “RB3025 001 58□14” on an Aviator). Write down the color and lens size, or take a photo, before ordering the part.
What you need
- A 3-in-1 precision screwdriver. For this model you use the top part.
- A light-colored cloth and a small container for the screw.
- Good lighting: the screws on the Round Metal are very small.
- The new arm: original Ray-Ban 3447 Round Metal arms or, if you prefer a more affordable option, compatible arms.
Step by step: how to replace the RB3447V arms
- Take the 3-in-1 screwdriver and get the tip in the top part ready.
- Open the glasses and rest them on the cloth with the hinge clearly visible.
- Remove the arm screw by turning it counterclockwise and put it in the container.
- Take off the old arm.
- Fit the new arm and carefully line up its hole with the hole in the hinge on the front. If it is tricky, hold the arm at a slight angle until the holes line up.
- Insert the screw and tighten it until the arm is secure but still opens and closes smoothly.
When you have finished, open and close the glasses several times and try them on. Both arms should rest evenly behind your ears. If you notice a difference, an optician can adjust the temple tip in no time.
Take the chance to check the other hinge
Since you already have the screwdriver in hand, check the screw on the other arm. On thin metal frames like this one, screws tend to work loose over time, and a small turn keeps them from falling out. Check the temple tips too: if they are cracked or have hardened, it is worth replacing them at the same time.
Common mistakes
- Using a tip that is too big. It damages the screw head, and then there is no way to get it out.
- Forcing the arm in. If it does not fit, check the orientation: the temple tip should point downward, just like on the other arm.
- Overtightening. The hinge becomes stiff and the frame, which is thin, can suffer.
- Losing the screw. If it gets lost or is worn, you will find it in Ray-Ban 3447 spare parts.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to remove the prescription lenses?
No. Replacing the arm only involves the hinge, and the lenses are not touched.
Do the arms from the sunglasses version fit the eyeglasses version?
The Round Metal comes in both a sunglasses and an eyeglasses version. Check on the product page that the arm matches your reference and, if in doubt, write to us with a photo of the markings on the arm.
Original or compatible?
The originals are official Ray-Ban parts (we have been a certified EssilorLuxottica distributor since 2018). Compatible arms are a good-quality alternative at a lower price. Both come with a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
Can I change the color of the arms?
Yes, as long as you choose an arm of the same model and size. It is an easy way to give your frame a fresh look.
