How to change the RB4105 temples

To change the temples on your Ray-Ban 4105 Folding Wayfarer, all you have to do is undo the screw that joins the front to the temple, fit the new one and tighten it again. The only tricky thing about this model is that it has more than one screw on each side, and you need to know which one to touch.

The RB4105 has the same shape and style as the classic Wayfarer, but it folds: the temples and the front fold up so the sunglasses take up less space and fit into their small case. That folding mechanism is precisely what you want to avoid taking apart by mistake.

Before you start

Confirm the model and size

On the inside of the temple you will see the full reference: the model (RB4105), the color code and the lens and bridge measurements, in the same format as on any Ray-Ban (for example, “RB3025 001 58□14” on an Aviator). Write it down or take a photo of it before you start; it will help you order the temple in exactly the right color.

What you need

Identify the right screw

On the RB4105 there are two screwed joints on each side: the hinge that joins the front to the temple, and the joint that lets the temple itself fold. To change the temple, the one you need to undo is the screw that joins the front to the temple, which we call screw 84. Leave the screw on the temple’s folding joint alone.

Step by step: how to change the temples on the RB4105

  1. Place the sunglasses open on the cloth, with the front hinge in view.
  2. Using the 3-in-1 screwdriver, unscrew screw 84, the one that joins the front to the temple.
  3. Remove the old temple.
  4. Insert the new temple into the hinge and line up the holes carefully.
  5. Screw the screw back in and tighten it until the temple is secure but still moves smoothly.
  6. Fold and unfold the sunglasses a couple of times to check that everything works as before.

If you are changing both temples, do one at a time. That way the temple that is still fitted serves as a guide to the correct position of the new one and to how the joint should sit when you fold the sunglasses.

Common mistakes

  • Undoing the wrong screw. This is the most common mistake with this model. If you take apart the temple’s folding joint instead of the front hinge, the part splits in two and you can’t get it off.
  • Overtightening. On folding sunglasses the hinges work hard; if they are too stiff, the mechanism suffers every time you fold them.
  • Losing the screw. It is tiny: work on a light-colored surface and put it away as soon as you take it out.
  • Reusing a worn screw. If the head is damaged or it keeps working loose, replace it with a new one from the Ray-Ban 4105 spare parts.

Frequently asked questions

What is screw 84?

It is the name we use for the screw that joins the front to the temple. It is the only one you need to remove to change the temple on the RB4105.

Do classic Wayfarer temples fit the 4105?

We don’t recommend it. The 4105 is a folding model and its temples are specific to it. Always order the part that matches the reference printed on your sunglasses and, if in doubt, write to us with a photo.

Original or compatible?

Original temples are genuine Ray-Ban parts (we have been a certified EssilorLuxottica distributor since 2018), and compatible temples are a good-quality alternative at a lower price. Both come with a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

Can I replace the folding bridge as well?

Yes, you will find other small parts among the spare parts for this model. We have a dedicated tutorial on how to replace the RB4105 bridge.

Spare parts for your Ray-Ban 4105 Folding Wayfarer

If your lenses need replacing too, we offer original replacement lenses for the RB4105, compatible lenses and prescription lenses. Standard shipping is free on orders over $ 50.53. Not sure which part to order? Write to us and we will help you by email.

Find your glasses' reference

Look on the inside of one of the temple arms. That's where you'll find the details needed to find the right replacement part.

To find lenses: the model and lens size are usually enough. For arms: we also recommend checking the color and length.
