How to replace the lenses and arms of your Ray-Ban Round Metal model RB3447

The lenses on the Ray-Ban RB3447 Round Metal are replaced by loosening the screw that closes the rim, removing the lens and fitting the new one. All you need is a precision screwdriver and a few minutes. In this guide we explain how to do it, and also how to replace the arms if they are damaged.

The Round Metal is one of Ray-Ban’s most popular models: thin round rims, a classic bridge and metal arms. Because it is a metal frame, the lenses are not press-fitted but held in place by a small screw on each rim, which makes replacing them much easier.

Before you start

Check your model and lens size

On the inside of one arm you will see your glasses’ reference, in a format such as “RB3025 001 58□14”. In your case it should start with “RB3447”. Next comes the frame color code and two numbers separated by a square: the first is the lens size, that is, the width of the lens in millimeters, and the second is the bridge width. The Round Metal is made in more than one lens size, so that number is key to ordering the right lens.

What you need

Replacement lenses for the RB3447 in your lens size.
A precision screwdriver.
Fine tweezers (optional) to handle the screws.
A soft cloth to rest the glasses and lenses on.

How to replace the RB3447 lenses step by step

Locate the screws. On each side there is one screw that closes the lens rim and another that holds the arm.
Loosen the rim screw. Unscrew it until the rim opens. On round models it is a good idea to also loosen the arm screw slightly so the rim gives way more easily.
Remove the lens. Hold the glasses over the cloth, because the lens can fall out as soon as the rim opens. If it does not come out on its own, push it gently from the inside.
Fit the new lens. Make sure it sits properly in the rim’s groove all the way around and is the right way round.
Tighten again. Gently screw in the rim screw and the arm screw until the lens is held firmly.
Check that it does not rotate. A round lens can easily end up loose and spin inside the rim. If that happens, give the screw a little extra turn.

How to replace the RB3447 arms

Remove the hinge screw and keep it somewhere safe.
Take off the old arm and fit the new one, lining up the hinge holes.
Insert the screw with the help of the tweezers and tighten it gently.
Open and close the arm to check that it moves smoothly.

Common mistakes

Ordering a lens in the wrong size. Always check the number shown before the square.
Overtightening. A rim that is closed too tightly can put stress on the lens or damage the screw thread.
Leaving the lens loose. On round frames, a loose lens spins and comes out with use.
Using a screwdriver that does not fit. It damages the screw head, making it hard to remove later.
Working without a cloth. If the lens falls onto a hard surface, it can get scratched or break.
