Oakley Prizm™ lenses are tuned to heighten color and contrast, so details are easier to pick out. Prizm is a family rather than one lens: some tints are built for a single activity, such as cycling, golf or fishing, and others for everyday wear. To choose, start with what you do, then check how much light the lens lets through. You can also change to another Prizm tint without buying new sunglasses, as long as Oakley makes it for your model and lens size.
What are Oakley Prizm lenses?
Prizm is Oakley’s own lens technology. Oakley explains that, unlike traditional dyes, Prizm dyes work on the light reaching the lens, strengthening the colors that reveal detail and holding back the ones that distract you.
Oakley’s range includes two lines you will see often. Prizm Sport lenses are tuned for what you need to see in each sport. Prizm Everyday lenses bring color and contrast to daily wear.
Oakley’s non-prescription Prizm lenses are made of Plutonite®, its polycarbonate lens material. Oakley says it filters 100% of UVA and UVB light up to 400 nm, and that this protection comes from the material rather than from a coating.
Which Prizm color for each use
Each figure below is the light transmission Oakley lists for that lens: the share of light that gets through. The lower the number, the darker the lens.
Prizm for sport
All the tints in this table have a rose base.
| Tint and light | Made for and what it does |
|---|---|
| Prizm Road 20% · medium light | Road cycling and running. Whites look brighter and yellows, greens and reds stand out, so road texture and hazards are easier to read |
| Prizm Road Jade 15% · bright light | Road cycling. A Road tint for brighter days |
| Prizm Road Black 11% · bright light | Road cycling. A Road tint, darker still |
| Prizm Trail Torch 35% · medium light | Mountain biking. Prizm Trail makes browns and reds stand out and greens look vivid, so changes in the dirt are easier to spot |
| Prizm Golf 30% · medium light | Golf. Greens and browns stand out, helping you tell fairway, fringe and rough apart |
| Prizm Dark Golf 22% · medium light | Golf. The same fairway, fringe and rough transitions, in a darker lens |
| Prizm Deep Water Polarized 12% · bright light | Fishing on open water. Holds back the blues that dominate open water and lifts greens and reds; the polarized filter cuts surface glare |
| Prizm Shallow Water Polarized 15% · bright light | Fishing in the shallows. Greens and coppers stand out and whites stay bright, helping you see hiding spots and fish shadows |
| Prizm Field 15% · bright light | Baseball. Whites and blue sky look brighter and grass and dirt look richer, so a white ball is easier to follow |
| Prizm Snow Sapphire 13% · sun and clouds | Winter sports. Snow is nearly all white, so Prizm Snow brings out cyan and reds to help you read its contours |
| Prizm Low Light 75% · low light | Low light. The lightest tint in this guide |
Prizm for everyday wear
Oakley’s advice here comes down to the base color: grey-based lenses keep colors looking natural, while bronze-based lenses make them warmer. Oakley also lists a rose base for Prizm Daily Polarized and for the sport tints above. All the tints below are listed for bright light. Several also come polarized, and the figure can differ slightly: Prizm Jade is 14%, Prizm Jade Polarized 13%.
| Base | Tints and light transmission |
|---|---|
| Grey | Prizm Grey 17% · Prizm Jade 14% · Prizm Violet 13% · Prizm Sapphire 12% · Prizm Black 11% |
| Bronze | Prizm Ruby 17% · Prizm Tungsten Polarized 14% · Prizm Rose Gold 13% · Prizm 24K Polarized 11% |
| Rose | Prizm Daily Polarized 14% |
All figures are the ones Oakley publishes on its website (checked in November 2026). A tint you like may not exist for your frame, and the figure can vary slightly from model to model, so check your model’s page before you decide.
Are Prizm lenses polarized?
Not always. Oakley makes Prizm in both polarized and non-polarized versions, and on its product pages a polarized lens says so in its name. On the Radar EV Path, for example, Prizm Road and Prizm Golf are non-polarized, while Prizm Deep Water Polarized is polarized.
A polarized filter cuts glare reflected from surfaces such as water, snow and roads. Oakley suggests Prizm Polarized for water sports, driving and bright conditions, and non-polarized Prizm for sports where contrast matters more than glare reduction, such as trail running or baseball.
“Iridium” in a tint’s name is a separate feature: Oakley describes Iridium® as a metal coating on the lens that reflects light to give a unique look. Some Prizm lenses carry it even though the word is not in their name.
How to tell if your lenses are Prizm
Look for the Prizm mark on the lens, and check the tint name on the box or receipt if you still have them. If you are not sure, send us a photo and we will help you identify them.
How to change your lenses to original Prizm
- Find your model and lens size. On most frames, look on the inside of the arm for a code such as OO9208 38□. The first part is the model, and the number right before the □ is the lens size. Our Oakley serial number guide explains the rest of the code.
- Choose your tint. Find your model among our original Oakley lenses. You are not tied to the color you have now: you can pick any tint listed for your model and size. The Radar EV Path page, for example, includes Prizm Road, Trail, Golf, Snow, Low Light and Deep Water Polarized.
- Check what you will receive. Lenses for two-lens models come as a complete pair, so both sides match. Models with a one-piece shield, such as the Radar EV Path, take a single shield lens.
- Fit them the way your model requires. It depends on the frame. Most models can be changed at home, and many product pages include a guide for that model. On the Radar EV Path, for example, you should not use heat or force the shield.
Original lenses are made by Oakley and reach you as Oakley makes them: we do not cut them in our workshop. We have been a certified EssilorLuxottica distributor since 2018, and our original lenses come with a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects.
Prizm with a prescription, and compatible lenses
Prescription. Oakley sells Authentic Prizm Prescription lenses directly and through its authorized opticians and retailers, in some Prizm tints. Our own prescription Oakley lenses are made to measure in our workshop. They are not Prizm, but they can be clear, tinted, polarized or photochromic.
Compatible lenses. Our compatible Oakley lenses, available for many two-lens models, are cut in our Granada workshop for your model. They are not made by Oakley and they are not Prizm, so if Prizm is what you want, choose originals.
Not sure which type suits you? Our Oakley lenses page compares original, compatible and prescription lenses side by side.
