Ray-Ban 4264 Lens Replacement: Step-by-Step Guide (also RB4263, RB4265)

2026-10-068-minute read
Step-by-step video: how to replace the lenses on Ray-Ban RB4264 Chromance sunglasses.

You can replace the lenses on Ray-Ban RB4264 sunglasses by hand, without a screwdriver. The old lens comes out when you push it from the inside of the frame, and the new one goes in from the front and is pressed into the groove of the rim. The RB4263 and RB4265 belong to the same family and work exactly the same way.

This Ray-Ban 4264 lens replacement guide was filmed in our workshop on a black RB4264 with polarized Chromance lenses. Below the video you will find the written steps, an illustration of each movement, the mistakes we see most often and how to choose the right lens for your frame.

Quick summary: Ray-Ban RB4264 · size 58 · nylon frame · no tools · no heat · lenses pressed into place.

Before you replace your Ray-Ban 4264 lenses

Check that your sunglasses are an RB4264

Look at the inside of the temples. On one of them, usually the left one, you will see a code such as “RB4264 601/J0 58□18”:

  • RB4264 is the model.
  • 601/J0 is the colour of the frame and of the factory lenses.
  • 58 is the lens size: the width of the lens in millimetres.
  • 18 is the bridge width.
Where to find the RB4264 model number and size 58 on the Ray-Ban temple
The model (RB4264) and the lens size (58) are printed on the inside of the temple. Illustration for guidance only.

The RB4263, RB4264 and RB4265 do not share lenses

All three are replaced the same way, but each one has its own lens shape and size: the RB4263 is size 55, the RB4264 size 58 and the RB4265 size 62. A lens from another model will not fit, even if it looks similar. Always order the one that matches the code on your temple.

If the print has worn off, read our guide to identifying your Ray-Ban model from the serial number or send us a photo of your sunglasses and we will tell you which one it is.

What you need

  • The new lenses in your model and size.
  • A clean microfibre cloth on a clear table.
  • Clean, dry hands. That is all: no tools and no heat are used in the video.

How to replace the lenses on Ray-Ban RB4264 sunglasses

1. Remove the old lens

  1. Open the temples and hold the frame with both hands, close to the rim you are working on.
  2. With your thumb, push the lens from the inside (the side facing your eyes) outwards, pressing near the edge.
  3. As you push, let the nylon rim give a little with your other fingers so the edge of the lens comes out of the groove.
  4. The lens comes out of the front. Do it over the cloth so it does not fall on the floor.
  5. Repeat on the other side.
Ray-Ban 4264 lens replacement steps: push out, position and seat the lens
1: push the lens out from the inside. 2: fit it from the front, starting on the hinge side. 3: pinch the bottom of the rim until it clicks in.

2. Fit the new lens

Before pressing, check that you have the right lens for that side and that it faces the right way: the curved side faces outwards and each lens has its own side. Hold it against the rim; if the shape does not match, try the other one. Original lenses have the Ray-Ban logo etched in the upper outer corner. Our compatible lenses have no logo, so go by the shape.

  1. Hold the sunglasses with the front facing you.
  2. Slide the hinge-side edge of the lens into the groove first.
  3. Press with your thumb towards the nose, along the top and the bottom, while your other fingers support the rim from behind.
  4. Finish as shown in the video: pinch the rim and the lens between thumb and index finger along the bottom edge until the whole outline sits in the groove.

3. Check the fit

Run your finger all the way around the lens. No part of the edge should be outside the groove and there should be no gap between the lens and the rim. Try to turn the lens gently: if it turns or wobbles, it is not seated properly or it is the wrong size. If you see a gap, pinch that section again.

When you have finished, clean both lenses with the cloth: fingerprints are very visible on polarized lenses.

Common mistakes when replacing RB4264 lenses

  • Buying RB4263 or RB4265 lenses for an RB4264 (or the other way round). They look alike but do not fit.
  • Pushing the lens from the outside in. On this frame it comes out of the front.
  • Levering with a screwdriver or a knife. It scratches the lens and marks the nylon.
  • Heating the frame with a hair dryer. It is not needed and can warp the frame.
  • Stopping with part of the edge still outside the groove. Sooner or later the lens will pop out.

Original, compatible or prescription lenses for the RB4264?

You have three options for the Ray-Ban 4264. This is what really changes between them:

Original Ray-Ban lenses for the RB4264

The original Ray-Ban 4264 replacement lenses are the factory polarized Chromance lenses in size 58: silver mirror, brown gold, green mirror, flash blue mirror and blue gradient mirror. Choose them if you want your sunglasses exactly as they came.

Compatible lenses for the RB4264, RB4263 and RB4265

The compatible Ray-Ban 4264 replacement lenses are made of polycarbonate with UV protection. They come in classic green, brown or grey, fashion colours, gradients, seven mirrored finishes, clear or photochromic. You choose the treatment separately: non-polarized, Polarized Plus, which blocks reflected glare, or Polarized Elite, which also adds an anti-reflective coating. For the other two models we have compatible Ray-Ban 4263 lenses and compatible Ray-Ban 4265 lenses.

Two things to know. Photochromic lenses darken in the sun (grey from 0 to 70 %, blue and green from 5 to 45 %) but do not become a standard sunglass lens. And compatible lenses are not original Ray-Ban lenses: they are made by an independent manufacturer to fit this frame and do not carry the brand logo.

Prescription lenses for the RB4264

The prescription lenses for Ray-Ban 4264 are made to measure in our workshop from your prescription. They are single vision, for distance or reading, from −6 to +6 sphere and up to −2 cylinder. You can order them clear (with anti-reflective coating or blue light filter), as sun lenses, polarized or Transitions Gen S photochromic, with thinner high-index options for stronger prescriptions. For the RB4263 there are prescription lenses for Ray-Ban 4263. As they are made to order, they ship in 3–6 working days and cannot be returned.

Frequently asked questions about Ray-Ban 4264 lenses

Can I replace the lenses on my Ray-Ban 4264 at home?

Yes. They are pressed into the groove of the nylon rim. You push them out from the inside and fit the new ones from the front, with no tools and no heat.

Do RB4263 or RB4265 lenses fit the RB4264?

No. The three models look alike and are replaced the same way, but each has its own shape and size (55, 58 and 62). Always order the lenses for your model.

Are compatible lenses original Ray-Ban?

No. They are made by an independent manufacturer, without the Ray-Ban logo, to fit the RB4264. If you want brand lenses, choose the original Chromance ones.

What are Chromance lenses?

Chromance is Ray-Ban’s range of polarized lenses designed to enhance colour and contrast. The original RB4264 lenses belong to this range.

Can I put prescription lenses in my Ray-Ban 4264?

Yes, single vision lenses for distance or reading, made to measure. We will ask for your prescription and pupillary distance. We do not make varifocals for this model.
