Ray-Ban 4105 Bridge – How to replace it

2022-04-304-minute read
Ray-Ban 4105 Bridge

If the bridge on your Ray-Ban 4105 Folding Wayfarer has broken, got scratched or lost its firmness, there is no need to replace your sunglasses: just unscrew the old bridge, line up the new one with the frame and screw it in. In this guide we explain how to do it safely and what to check before ordering the part.

Ray-Bans are among the most popular sunglasses around, but that doesn’t make them immune to knocks. On folding models some parts work very hard, and the RB4105 bridge is one of the most exposed: it comes into play every time you fold the glasses to put them away in their small case.

Why replace the bridge?

The bridge doesn’t just join the two halves of the front: it also keeps the glasses stable on your nose and in place while you are wearing them. A damaged bridge leaves the glasses crooked, makes them fold badly or causes them to open on their own. Replacing it gives your Ray-Bans back the comfort and stability they had on day one, without giving up a frame you love.

Before you start

Check your reference

On the inside of the temple you’ll see the full reference printed: the model (RB4105), the color code and the lens and bridge measurements, in the same format as on any Ray-Ban (for example, “RB3025 001 58□14” on an Aviator). Take a photo of it: you’ll need it to order the part in the right color and size.

What you need

  • A precision screwdriver of the right size for the bridge screws.
  • A light-colored cloth and a container so you don’t lose the small parts.
  • Good light and a clear surface.
  • The new bridge: as official distributors, we have original bridges in Ray-Ban 4105 spare parts.

Step by step: how to replace the RB4105 bridge

  1. Look at how it is fitted. Before touching anything, note the position of the bridge and its screws, or take a photo. It will serve as a guide when you fit the new one.
  2. Unscrew the old bridge. Carefully loosen the screws holding it and remove the bridge from the frame. Keep the screws in the container.
  3. Prepare the replacement bridge. Take it out of its packaging and compare it with the old one to make sure the orientation is the same.
  4. Fit the new bridge. Line it up with the frame so that the holes match.
  5. Screw it in securely. Tighten the screws a little at a time, alternating between them, without forcing, until the bridge is firm.
  6. Check the folding. Fold and unfold the glasses several times to make sure the mechanism works smoothly and the front sits straight when open.

Common mistakes

  • Not paying attention to the orientation. If you fit the bridge the wrong way round, the glasses won’t fold properly or will sit crooked. That is why it is a good idea to take a photo before taking it apart.
  • Overtightening. A screw that is too tight can damage the thread or stop the front from folding normally.
  • Using a screwdriver that doesn’t fit. It damages the screw heads and makes assembly harder.
  • Reusing worn screws. If they are damaged, replace them at the same time as the bridge.
