How to replace the sweat bar on Ray-Ban RB3422Q glasses

If the sweat bar on your Ray-Ban RB3422Q has been damaged or lost, you can replace it yourself with the right spare part and a little patience. A customer asked us how to do it, so we recorded the video above, which shows how easy it is. Here we also explain it in writing.

Before you start

Check that your glasses are an RB3422Q

Look at the inside of one of the temples. That is where the reference of your glasses is printed, in a format similar to “RB3025 001 58□14”: after “RB” comes the model number, then the frame color code and, finally, the lens size and the bridge width. In your case it should read “RB3422Q”. It is important to check this, because the small parts of each model are specific and are not always interchangeable between similar models.

Identify the part

If you are not sure which part is the sweat bar or whether yours matches the spare part, compare your glasses with the photos on the Ray-Ban 3422Q spare parts product page. If you are still unsure, send us a photo and we will confirm it before you place your order.

What you need

  • The replacement sweat bar for the RB3422Q.
  • A precision screwdriver, in case the part is held in place with screws.
  • Fine tweezers (optional) for handling small parts.
  • A soft cloth and a clear, well-lit surface.

How to replace the sweat bar step by step

We recommend watching the whole video first and then following these steps with your glasses in front of you:

  1. See how it is attached. Before touching anything, look at how the sweat bar is fitted on your glasses and compare it with what you see in the video. If you can, take a photo with your phone: it will serve as a reference when you fit the new one.
  2. Prepare your work area. Rest the glasses on the cloth with the temples folded, so they don’t get scratched or move around.
  3. Remove the old part. Follow the same procedure as in the video. If there are screws, remove them with the screwdriver and keep them somewhere safe. Don’t pry hard or use sharp tools.
  4. Position the new part. Place it in the same position as the original, checking that it is properly aligned and centered.
  5. Secure it. Put the screws back in, if there are any, and tighten them gently, without overdoing it.
  6. Check the result. Make sure the part is secure, doesn’t move and that the glasses still sit straight when you put them on.

Common mistakes

  • Ordering the part for a different model. Even if they look alike, small parts are not always interchangeable. Go by the reference on the temple.
  • Forcing the part. If something doesn’t fit, stop and watch the video again; forcing it can bend the frame.
  • Overtightening the screws. You can strip the thread or mark the part.
  • Rushing. The parts are small and easy to lose. Work without distractions.

Frequently asked questions

Is it difficult to replace the sweat bar?

No. As you can see in the video, it is a simple job if you have the right part and take your time.

Can I change the lenses at the same time?

Yes. The RB3422Q is a metal frame, and on many metal Ray-Ban models the lenses are changed by loosening the rim screw. Find your lenses in original Ray-Ban replacement lenses.

What if my temples are damaged too?

You can find them in our original Ray-Ban temples section using your model reference.

How do I stop it from getting damaged again?

Keep your glasses in their case when you are not wearing them, don’t leave them in the sun inside the car and clean them with a soft cloth. If there are screws, check every now and then that they are still tight.

What if I can’t manage it?

Write to us with a photo of your glasses and we will help you sort it out by email.

Find your glasses' reference

Look on the inside of one of the temple arms. That's where you'll find the details needed to find the right replacement part.

To find lenses: the model and lens size are usually enough. For arms: we also recommend checking the color and length.
